The filming of the Star Wars movies in Tunisia took place mainly in southern Tunisia, in the region of Tataouine, the region of Tozeur and on the island of Djerba.

 

Tataouine in Tunisia and its surrounding ksour greatly inspired George Lucas for his Star Wars films.

The city's very name, Tataouine, was an inspiration for the creation of the desert planet Tatooine.

A DAY ON THE STAR WARS FILMING SITES IN TATAOUINE

The Tataouine region, the Ksar of Medenine, the Ksar Ouled Soltane and the Ksar Hadada served as authentic settings for the Star Wars films.

Matmata, which you are going to visit, also served as a setting for the Lars farm , where Luke was raised. It was a troglodyte hotel which was transformed for filming by George Lucas's decorators.

Ksar Medenine, located in the city itself, as well as Ksar Ouled Soltane , were used without alterations for the slave quarters of Tatooine.

Ksar Ouled Soltane is one of the best preserved ksour in the country and remains relatively untouched by tourism.

Ksar Hadada also served as the setting for the slave quarters in Star Wars. The Ksar has become a troglodyte hotel restaurant.

This is where key scenes were filmed, such as Anakin's arrival at Anakin's house in the storm and Anakin's departure with Qui-Gon and their farewell to Shmi.

STAR WARS EXCURSION ON TATOOINE FROM DJERBA

For Star Wars fans, we are pleased to offer you a day trip from Djerba to the main filming sites of the famous saga.

This comprehensive excursion includes all the filming sites in the Berber region of southeastern Tunisia.

We will pick you up in front of your accommodation in Djerba early in the morning, at 7:30 am, to begin our adventure on the planet Tatooine.

Your first stop will be in Medenine, where you can see the ksar that was used as a setting for some scenes in the film "The Phantom Menace" .

Next, you will head to Matmata, famous for its troglodyte houses, and you will have the opportunity to visit the Sidi Idriss Hotel , which served as the setting for the Lars Farm , Luke Skywalker 's home.


You will also see the Ksar Hadada, which was used to represent the slave quarters of Mos Espa (in Episode I, "The Phantom Menace").

After a lunch break at the Ksar Hadada restaurant, you will continue your exploration with a guided tour of the village of Chenini, where you can discover the outdoor landscapes that served as a backdrop for some Star Wars scenes.

Finally, you will end our excursion with a visit to the Ksar Ouled Soltane , which served as a model for the slave quarters of Tatooine (in Episode I).

  • Visit to Ksar Medenine, a setting used in Star Wars - Episode 1.

 

  • Then visit the village of Matmata and the Sidi Idriss hotel, also known as "Lars farm" in the Star Wars films.

 

  • Discover Ksar Hadada, another setting used in Star Wars - Episode 1. Admire the architecture and atmosphere that inspired the scenes in the Mos Espa slave quarter.
