EXCURSION FROM ZARZIS TO KSAR GHILANE.
Discover the majesty of the Tunisian desert on our day trip from Zarzis to Ksar Ghilane.
In 4X4, we will leave at 6:30 in the direction of Ksar Ghilane via Medenine.
A coffee break in Medenine will allow us to catch our breath before embarking on the winding road that leads to the oasis of Ksar Ghilane.
We will cross hills to reach increasingly arid and rocky landscapes. The entrance to Ksar Ghilane will mark our encounter with the ocher sand of the desert.
Once at the oasis, you will have free time to explore the surroundings.
We will then have lunch in a restaurant nestled at the foot of the dunes.
After the meal, you can refresh yourself by bathing in the spring.
If you are looking for more adventure, additional activities are available: a camel ride (15€/h) or a quad ride to the Roman fort of Tisavar (30€/h). These activities are payable locally.
In the middle of the afternoon, we will take the way back to Zarzis. On our way, we will make a stop to visit the Ksar Hallouf.
The expected arrival at your place of stay is around 5:30 p.m.

Ksar Ghilane
The southernmost of the Tunisian oases is one of the gates of the Tunisian Sahara desert, the oasis is fedby a hot spring, spring from a failed oil drillingin 1953, instead of finding oil, drillers founda captive water table, 700 m deep.
Water flows on the surfaceat around 32°,it is very sulphurous, one can bathe there, it would have thermal virtues. You can also take a camel or quad ride.
Ksar Ghilane serves as a refuge for about fifty nomadic families living from the exploitation of the date palm and raising goats and sheep.
4 km from Ksar Ghilane, Tisavar, a fort dating from Roman times of the Emperor Commodus.
Tisavar is a rectangular construction, the walls, constructed in freestone to a height of 1.50 m, in smaller rubble stones above. It served as an outpost and base camp for their Saharan expeditions.It also allowed to controlthe caravans that brought their wealth to the coasts.
The old building was then occupied in the Middle Ages, before being restored by the French during the Second World War, the fort was used by the Leclerc column during the maneuver to circumvent the Mareth line.

Then drive to Ksar Ghilane, an oasis surrounded by huge ocher sand dunes (Erg Oriental).
