We will pick you up at your place of stay in Zarzis to start our circuit through the magnificent great Tunisian south.
Our itinerary will begin with the south-eastern region, Djebel Dahar, where you will discover many Berber villages, the best known of which are Matmata, Toujene and Chenini.
You will have the opportunity to explore these emblematic places which bear witness to the rich cultural and historical past of this beautiful Berber region.
Continuing west, we will cross the Chott El Jerid, the largest salt lake in Tunisia, to reach the world famous oases that produce the famous Deglet Nour dates.
We will have the opportunity to visit these oases and learn more about date cultivation.
We will continue our circuit to Tozeur, a city with oriental charms with its medina. You can stroll through the narrow streets and discover the traditional architecture of the region.
Heading even further west, we'll reach the mountains near the Algerian border, where springs gush and small oases provide havens of coolness.
We will visit the waterfalls of Tamerza, the canyons of Midès and the picturesque oasis of Chebika. These natural sites will amaze you with their beauty.
Finally, we will venture further south, where the vegetation gives way to the Sahara desert.
You will be dazzled by the endless expanses of dunes of the great eastern erg. From the white sand of Douz to the saffron ocher of Ksar Ghilane, you will be immersed in the majesty of the desert.
This 4-day circuit will allow you to discover all aspects of the great Tunisian south, from Berber villages to lush oases and breathtaking desert landscapes.

During our tour, you will have the opportunity to spend a night in the middle of the Sahara, whether in a bivouac or a camp.
Spending the night in the desert, under a starry sky, is an unforgettable experience that will allow you to connect with nature and feel the magic of this unique environment.
The area we will explore on our tour is ideal for 4x4 tours, as many places are not accessible to passenger vehicles.
You will therefore have the opportunity to discover preserved sites and enjoy breathtaking landscapes.
Matmata is one of the villages we will visit during our tour. Famous for its remarkable troglodyte dwellings, Matmata is a high place of tourism in Tunisia.
This village has also served as the setting for some scenes in the Star Wars saga, making it a popular destination for fans of the series.
Douz, nicknamed the "gateway to the Sahara", is an essential stop on our circuit. Formerly, it was the most important oasis in the region and a stopover for caravans on their journeys between the Sahara and northern Tunisia.
Every year in December, Douz welcomes the international festival of the Sahara, a unique event highlighting Saharan culture.
By exploring these sites and discovering the traditions and history of the region, you will live a fascinating adventure in the heart of the great Tunisian south.
The Chott El Jerid is a salt lake that stretches over nearly a hundred kilometers from east to west.
Contrary to popular belief, the Chott El Jerid is located above sea level, with no altitude lower than 15 meters.
This unique landscape offers spectacular views and a fascinating experience on our tour.
Tozeur, located northwest of Chott El Jerid, is one of the emblematic oases located at the gates of the Sahara desert.
This city has an important religious past and is known for its scholars. Tozeur is also famous for its production of dates, with an annual production of 35,000 tons, of which 4,000 tons come from organic farming.
The Deglet Nour (Finger of Light) variety represents two-thirds of the region's date production.
During our tour, you will have the opportunity to discover these natural and cultural wonders, exploring Tozeur and admiring the fascinating landscapes of Chott El Jerid.
TOZEUR AND THE MOUNTAIN OASIS
Chebika, Tamerzaand theMidès Canyon are threemountain oasis emblems of Tunisia.
Located about an hour's drive northwest of Tozeur, Chebika is an oasis nestled in the side of desolate rocks.
With its deep gorges, Chebika offers a spectacular landscape. If you climb up to the mausoleum, you will be rewarded with a magnificent view of the salt lake (chott), the oasis and the surrounding mountains.
Tamerza, on the other hand, is nestled in a small valley surrounded by mountains.
Its captivating lunar landscape is made up of jagged massifs and palm trees bathed by the wadi (river). Tamerza is famous for its waterfalls where water gushes from the rocks, creating a magical atmosphere.
Some scenes from the movie "The English Patient" were filmed in this scenic area.
Finally, Midès clings to the edge of a canyon and offers breathtaking views of fossils and colored minerals.
The modern village of Midès is in the heart of a palm grove which provides dates, oranges and figs.
This place was also used as a set for scenes in the films "The English Patient" and "Fort Saganne".
During our tour, you will have the opportunity to discover these exceptional mountain oases and immerse yourself in their unique atmosphere.
Striking landscapes and cinematic references will make your experience even more memorable.
Ksar Ghilane is one of Tunisia's southernmost oases and a real gateway to the Sahara Desert.
Fed by a spring, this oasis offers a peaceful atmosphere and is home to a community of nomads living from the exploitation of date palms and the breeding of goats and sheep.
As an option, you can enjoy a camel or quad ride to visit the ancient Roman fort of Tisavar, adding a touch of adventure to your experience.
Chenini, located 18 km west of Tataouine, is a magnificent site and one of the most visited in the region.
Perched on a ridge, you will discover remarkable troglodyte dwellings, built into the rock.
This is a unique opportunity to explore the traditional architecture of the region and admire the panorama from this historic village.
The Citadel of Guermassa, on the other hand, is located on a steep hill and requires a 4x4 to access it.
This Berber village offers breathtaking views and an authentic atmosphere. Although less preserved than other villages, the Citadel of Guermassa is a living testimony to the history and culture of the region.
Ksar Ouled Soltane is a four-storey Arab ksar, renowned for its superb ghorfas.
Unlike the fortified Berber ksour, this one is not fortified but has remarkable architecture.
You will be amazed by the beauty and grandeur of this historic building.
Finally, Ksar Hadada, located 5 km north of Ghomrassen, served as the setting for the film "Star Wars" in 1999. With its 380 single-storey ghorfas, this place offers a unique atmosphere and immerses you in the world of famous film saga.

FOUR-DAY TRIP TO TOZEUR IN 4WD CAR FROM ZARZIS
Day 1 :

Pick-up at 7:30 a.m. from your place of stay in Zarzis.

Road to Matmata with a photo break at the salt lake of Zarzis.

Visit of the Star Wars sets in Matmata and exploration of a troglodyte house with the locals.

Visit of Tamezret with an introduction to Berber cuisine and lunch with the locals.

Continuation to Tozeur via Douz and the Chott El Jerid (salt lake). Dinner at the restaurant and night in a guesthouse or hotel in Tozeur.
Day 2:

Departure for the mountain oases. Visit the oases of Chebika, Tamerza and the canyon of Mides.

Lunch in a restaurant in Tamerza.

Visits to Ong Jmel and Star Wars sets in Mos Espa in the desert, with the possibility of admiring the sunset.

Dinner at the restaurant and night in a guesthouse or hotel in Tozeur.
Day 3:

Visit of the medina of Tozeur.

Visit of the canyon of Sidi Bouhlel, another setting of Star Wars.

Departure for Douz with crossing of Chott El Jerid (salt lake).

Visit of the irrigation system of the palm grove.

Lunch in a restaurant in Douz.

Departure for Ksar Ghilane by track or road depending on the season.

Free time in the oasis with the possibility of bathing in the hot spring (32°C) as an option.

Optional: Quad ride (€30/h per person) or camel ride (€15/h per person).

Departure by the track for the Saharan camp, a crossing of 20 km in the desert. Installation, free time, ceremony of baking bread in the sand, dinner and overnight in private tents in the desert.
Day 4:

Free time in the dunes of the Eastern Sahara.

Guided tour of the Berber village of Chenini.

Lunch in a restaurant in Guermassa.

Visit of Ksar Ouled Soltane, another Star Wars setting.

Return to Zarzis at the end of the afternoon around 5:30 p.m., with drop-off at your place of stay.
