Star Wars Tour in Tunisia: In the Footsteps of the Galactic Saga Immerse yourself in the Star Wars universe as you explore iconic filming locations in Tunisia. This tour will take you through stunning desert landscapes, traditional villages, and natural settings that have brought the mythical planet Tatooine to life. Follow in the footsteps of your favorite characters and experience an unforgettable adventure in a galaxy not so far away. Ksar Ouled Soltane: Tatooine's Slave Quarter Located in the southeast of Tunisia, Ksar Ouled Soltane is a fortified Berber village dating back to the fifteenth century. Its multi-storey granaries were transformed by George Lucas to represent the slave quarters of Mos Espa in Episode I: The Phantom Menace. This ksar is one of the best preserved in the country and is still not very touristy, offering an authentic and immersive experience. You will be able to relive the scenes where the young Anakin Skywalker grew up before becoming a Jedi. Ksar Hadada: Another Iconic Setting Not far from there, Ksar Hadada also served as the setting for Tatooine's slave quarter. It is here that Qui-Gon Jinn contacts Obi-Wan Kenobi to analyze the level of midi-chlorians in Anakin's blood, revealing his exceptional potential. You will be able to visit the places where Shmi Skywalker confides in Qui-Gon that his son has no father, a key scene in the saga. The narrow alleys and stone structures of this ksar provide a fascinating setting for film and history lovers. Matmata: Uncle Owen's House The cave village of Matmata is renowned for its underground dwellings carved into the rock, providing natural protection from the desert heat. The Sidi Driss Hotel, one of the most famous houses, was used as the setting for the Lars farm, Luke Skywalker's home, in Episode IV: A New Hope and Episode II: Attack of the Clones. Here you can visit the "Star Wars Courtyard", where the dining room and the main courtyard of the house were filmed. The painted ceiling in the dining room, restored for the filming of Episode II, is still in perfect condition, immersing you directly in the atmosphere of the film. Sidi Bouhlel: The Star Wars Canyon Known as the "Star Wars Canyon", Sidi Bouhlel is a spectacular natural site that has served as the setting for several cult scenes. It is here that Luke Skywalker and C-3PO find R2-D2 before being attacked by the Sandmen in Episode IV. The steep cliffs were also used for the Tusken shots during the podracer race in Episode I. Apart from its connection to the saga, the landscape of Sidi Bouhlel is breathtaking, ideal for hiking and photography enthusiasts. Chott el-Gharsa: Mos Espa, Anakin's Village Near Tozeur and Nefta, the Chott el-Gharsa houses the life-size sets of Mos Espa, the village where Anakin works in Episode I. You can walk through the streets where Qui-Gon Jinn, Padmé Amidala and Jar Jar Binks have wandered, and even relive the scene where Jar Jar succumbs to the culinary temptations of the local market. These settings reappear in Episode II during Anakin's visit to Watto. Despite the years, the site has retained its charm and offers you a total immersion in the universe of the saga. Tatouine: The Origin of the Name Tatooine Although the city of Tataouine was not a filming location, it inspired the name of the desert planet Tatooine. Take advantage of your visit to explore the surroundings, rich in ksour and Berber villages, and discover the local culture that has influenced the aesthetics of the saga so much. The Sea of Salt of Chott el-Djérid: A Surreal Landscape The Chott el-Djérid is a huge salt lake offering extraordinary panoramas. It was here that the scenes of the sunset with two suns were filmed, creating one of the most iconic moments in the saga. The changing hues of the salt and mirages create an almost alien atmosphere, perfect for unforgettable photos.
